Through a press release it was informed that the Border Bridges Trust recorded damages amounting to $64.68 million dollars, with only 783 cargo vehicles transiting the Zaragoza Bridge; 266 in Guadalupe and 1,494 in San Jerónimo.
As well as 998 transports could not access the United States through the international crossings, so that, in total, from September 18 to date, 15,578 cargo trucks have not been able to cross the different border bridges.
During the same period, the Zaragoza Bridge had an accumulated capacity of 9,732 vehicles; 3,201 in Guadalupe and 16,159 in San Jerónimo, with a total traffic of 29,92 units and 15,578 vehicles stopped.
This economic crisis derives from the arrival of thousands of people in mobility conditions to the state of Chihuahua, for which reason the state government requested the Federation to take measures to solve this problem.
Oscar Ibañez, the governor’s representative in Ciudad Juárez, stated that the problem is having an impact on the commercial economy, but also on daily life.
He also said that they have taken actions within what they are allowed to do, since the State is not allowed to dialogue with U.S. authorities, as this is an area that corresponds to the Federation.
