Following the municipal president’s announcement to place a temporary migrant shelter in the Southeast zone, neighbors of the sector protested against it on Wednesday night, expressing their disagreement.

The group of neighbors expressed their concern about the proposal to establish a shelter for migrants in that area, since the residents argue that the land proposed for the shelter is small, as well as fearing for the safety of the sector.

Mrs. María de los Ángeles Macías, a neighbor of Hacienda de las Torres, indicated that there are larger lots in the city that could house a larger number of people without affecting the coexistence in the area.

“This land is too small. This land is green area and they already grabbed it for the migrants. We don’t want the migrants here because we know beforehand that look… we are not going to have security. We need security for us, for our homes, for our children, for our girls, for everything”, she said.

The issue has generated a debate between those who see the need to support people in migration situations and those who fear for the safety of the local community.

They fear that the presence of a migrant shelter in their area could compromise their well-being and that of their families.

And claim that they have not been consulted or had their opinion considered in this matter and demand that their safety be guaranteed before a final decision is made.

Although they also indicated that they are not against the arrival of people on the move to the city, they want the situation to be addressed in a way that protects the safety and tranquility of the local community.

Therefore, they called on the municipal president to listen to their concerns and those of the entire subdivision, in order to seek a solution that benefits both parties.

A shelter for migrants is to be located at this site

In this regard, this Thursday, the mayor, Cruz Perez Cuellar, stated that municipal authorities seek to dialogue with the neighbors of that site, trying to show them the project, but in case they do not accept it, their will will will be respected and they will opt for another place to place the shelter.

Likewise, in the midst of the crisis caused by the commercial closure of the Cordoba-Americas international bridge, which continues to strangle exports due to the migratory problem, he considered that Ciudad Juarez is a victim of the decisions of the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott.
