According to preliminary information, the migrants were traveling aboard a Ford Expedition truck, with the intention of allegedly crossing into the United States illegally, when they were shot at in the desert of Ejido de San Jeronimo, apparently by members of the National Guard.
Six migrants were located at the scene of the shooting: two of them were killed and four more were injured, according to Jorge Armendariz, spokesman for the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE).
However, due to inconsistencies in the statements of the migrants, the case was turned over to the State Attorney General’s Office, and it will be these authorities who will carry out the corresponding investigation.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General of the State in the Northern Zone, Carlos Manuel Salas, announced in a press conference the identities of the deceased persons.
He said that the injured were identified as Carlos Humberto Rodríguez López, 19 years old; Rigoberto González Chávez, 28 years old; Eduardo García Paredes, 19 years old, of Guatemalan nationality and Raúl de Jesús Hernández Ramírez, 18 years old, of Honduran nationality.
Also that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene of the incident, along with four women who were not injured.
The official also announced that one person is in custody for this incident, as well as another person involved who has not yet been found.
He also indicated that personnel from the Secretary of National Defense made available four long arms in relation to this incident.
According to the statements of the injured, they were victims of a chase and armed confrontation, although no shell casings have been found in the place of the incident, since the place where the shots were fired differs from the place where the truck was found stuck in the sandbanks.
