However, so far, authorities have not reported any arrests, despite the fact that the victim’s relatives and friends have been informed that there are several people involved in this case.
“We made our request for the continuity of the investigation and that it be resolved with a sentence, that is to say, that justice can be done, that it does not go unpunished and that it is not just another statistic,” said Rocio Saenz, director of the organization “Renace y Vive Mujer”, to which Karina belonged.
The above, after a press release issued on Wednesday by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Attention to Women Victims of Gender and Family Crimes of the Northern Zone (FEM) informed that the activist had been identified, after having initiated investigations on November 18.
It was indicated that by means of security camera videos and intelligence work, it was determined that Karina’s last location was in the Anapra neighborhood, for which two houses were searched during the night of Tuesday, November 28.
Following the investigations, the authorities established two addresses of interest in the Anapra area, so a police operation was mounted in a house located at the intersection of Cangrejo and Ostras streets, where a dismantled vehicle was located and secured, which is presumed to be owned by Dominguez Rubio.
Meanwhile, in another house, located on Raya and Erizo de Mar streets, the lifeless body of Karina was found, however, so far, the authorities have not informed if there are any detainees for this fact, although the investigations continue.
In this regard, the director of Renace and Vive Mujer expressed that they felt a lot of indignation, sadness, frustration, concern, in addition to being shocked at this moment.
“We know that from the moment of a disappearance there are probabilities, but we always have the faith and hope to be able to find our loved ones in the best way,” she stated.
She pointed out that the authorities have not released much information such as the motive or the reason why Karina was in that area, as well as no resolution has been given to the issue.
“They have not told us that there are people detained so far, simply that it is to continue with the investigation. We hope that the procedures are carried out in a prompt and expeditious manner,” she added.
Saenz indicated that the investigations by the authorities began late, because while they as part of the civil society began with searches in the area where she was last seen, while the Prosecutor’s Office began operations three days after her disappearance was reported.
“It is really something that I believe is not a special issue for our colleague, but perhaps because of work saturations or we do not really know what happened. We want to believe that it is not an intentional matter, but that the investigations took place under those circumstances. When we started the search, we realized that there was no progress and it had already been three days since the disappearance”, he said.
In a call to the authorities, Saenz expressed that as a society and as a civil association it is necessary to know what is happening with our women, in order to prevent and work together to avoid this type of situation.
“If they don’t give us the information, that prevents us, limits us and really doesn’t allow us to face it and be vigilant. We need this information to alert us and take appropriate measures,” she concluded.
