Ciudad Juarez comprises 80 percent of the state’s female homicides, with a total of 116 as of September 2023.
According to information from Yadira Cortéz, member of Red Mesa de Mujeres, 141 murders of women have been registered in the state of Chihuahua, of which 116 have occurred in Ciudad Juárez, representing more than 80 percent of all intentional homicides in the state.
Meanwhile, according to the monitoring carried out by Circuito Frontera, in Ciudad Juarez there is a trend of a city where every 3 days a woman is murdered.
The actvist said that the organization has carried out a systematization of figures related to intentional homicides and family violence so far in 2023.
Based on this registry, carried out by the Citizen Observatory specialized in gender of the Red Mesa de Mujeres, 121 women victims of intentional homicide were registered in this border from January to October of this year.
She said that of these cases, 20 have been classified by the State Attorney General’s Office as femicides, however, she emphasized that for her organization, any intentional homicide against a woman is a femicide.
For this reason, they continue to demand that all investigations be carried out with a gender perspective.
It should be recalled that just last Thursday, October 19, a couple was found dead outside the premises of a gym, located on Ejército Nacional Avenue, at the intersection with Ramon Rivera Lara Avenue, in the San Pedro del Real neighborhood.
According to the police report, the man was found lying on the ground and a woman was found inside a vehicle, both dead from gunshot wounds.
However, preliminary data showed that the man killed his partner in a fit of jealousy and then committed suicide in the parking lot of the gym.
The activist indicated that in the matter of family violence, 4,989 investigation files have been opened in the city for this reason in the first eight months of the year.
In addition, 517 cases of rape and 599 cases of sexual abuse have been registered in the same period.
He considered that the magnitude of these numbers highlights the urgent need to address gender violence in the region.
Cortéz indicated that according to the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, 572 cases of femicide have been registered nationally from January to August.
As well as the state of Chihuahua is in seventh place, with a total of 30 femicides, while Ciudad Juarez leads nationally with 18.
In addition, in the area of intentional homicides of women at the national level, the state of Chihuahua ranked fourth with a total of 1,740 victims.
