    E. Coli contamination in the Parque central lake not only affects humans, but also animals, posing significant public health risks, stated doctor Alonso Ríos Delgado, president of the Physicians College of Ciudad Juarez.

“If you have ever passed by there or have had the opportunity to go there, you will see that it is a lake or you may have noticed that the water is stinking and this denotes that it is contaminated water, water that is a breeding ground for bacteria and that in due course can be harmful,” he said.

He explained that E. Coli is a bacterium that, under normal conditions, can cause harm to both humans and animals and in particular to the ducks present, which could be at risk.

He said that although a veterinarian is required to assess the risk in animals, humans are affected by contact with water.

He pointed out that, especially during the hot season, families often walk near the lake, and the evaporation of the water, mixed with the presence of E. Coli, can generate infectious situations that affect people living near the lake.

Indicated that contact with contaminated water, either directly or through evaporation, poses health risks to people, so he warned about the possibility of gastrointestinal or skin infections.

Alonso Ríos Delgado emphasized that bacteria, such as E. Coli, can be more aggressive in stagnant water, as in the case of the lake in Parque Central.

The president of the Medical Association said that among the diseases that could be spread are urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal and possible skin infections.

    E. Coli, according to the president of the College of Physicians, is more linked to urinary tract and digestive tract infections, although he did not rule out the possibility that other bacteria may also be present in this stagnant water.

Ríos Delgado emphasized that bacteria can be more aggressive in water than in other environments, increasing the risk of infections, so he made a recommendation not only to the general population, but also to the government, urging them to pay attention and take measures to treat the stagnant waters of the parque central.
