During a meeting held this Tuesday at the Government Palace, Santiago de la Peña Grajeda, Secretary General of Government, stated that currently they estimate that in Ciudad Juárez there are around 12,000 “stranded” migrants, so the shelters are at the limit of their capacity.

The above, after a meeting with personnel from the National Migration Institute (INM), who presented them with a report on the migratory flow of the last few days and priority actions.

The official commented that currently the migratory crisis is also becoming an economic problem, since there is no date foreseen for the opening of the Córdova-Americas bridge.

Roberto Juárez Granados, director of the “Todos Somos Mexicanos” Health Center, which is in charge of providing medical services to the migrant population on behalf of the State Government, announced that at least five migrants have been treated for tuberculosis.

However, the doctor pointed out that these patients have already crossed into the United States, and that the cases did not occur at the same time, but rather at different stages throughout the year.

This place is part of a network of 23 health units in the northern zone, where primary care is offered free of charge to people who do not have health insurance.

Regarding the issue of migration on the border lines, Border Patrol (CBP) authorities reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Senior Customs and Border Protection Officer Troy A. Miller met last Friday with Mexican government and railroad industry officials in Ciudad Juarez to discuss measures to address enhanced border security operations in response to the increase in encounters.

Miller appreciated the continued attention to the dangerous movement of migrants in rail cars, as well as addressed the impact that increased resources needed to process inadmissible non-citizens has on CBP’s enforcement mission and operations at ports of entry.

Although on Saturday, the resumption of operations at the international railroad crossing bridge in Eagle Pass, Texas, took place.

It is worth mentioning that during the weekend, the Municipal Police and personnel from the National Immigration Institute (INM) carried out an operation along the border crossing, following the arrival of migrants at the border.
